So I’ve been in weightlifting gyms all my life for sports, football/baseball/ wrestling, you name it. This was the first time I’ve ever stepped foot into a boxing gym, and I was fairly nervous because my unfamiliarity with the sport, techniques, environment, etiquette. To say this place put all those nerves at ease instantaneously would be an understatement. I met Josh who signed me up the previous day, I made sure he knew I was an idiot to the sport and had no clue what I was doing. While I was stumbling over my words of why I wanted to join this gym, he quickly and tactfully managed to make me feel like I belonged there. This feeling of belonging and community continued into the next day where I had my first training session with Eric. Everyone (and I mean absolutely everyone in the gym) was welcoming, social, and made you feel like you’re making the right choice. My entire athletic career in football (I played for 11 years) I never had this feeling when walking into a new athletic facility with new faces, teammates, or coaches, for the first time. If you’re on the edge of wanting to join something like this, and what I described above is what is worrying you… this gym is the place for you to go. For me this was a wonderful first day, and I’m hoping to get better each time I go. The staff at Vintage conduct themselves very professionally and the coaches are highly knowledgeable about mechanics, tactics and mindset. They also understand principles of physical conditioning and recovery VERY well. They train professional and amateur fighters as well as ordinary people seeking fitness, self defense or a new experience. The instruction is patiently delivered and fun! I went to Vintage because I wanted to learn the science of boxing and they did not disappoint. Everyone at the gym is incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. Within 6 months I went from beginner classes to competitive sparring and I always felt supported along the way. I even had the opportunity to spar someone from another gym. I beat the crap out of him because Vintage taught me everything I needed to know. I Love all the coaches and the owner is truly committed to seeing everyone work hard and improve.
